Bigfoot

Bigfoot lives behind my house. Remember that beautiful forest area I told you about? That is where he lives. You may have seen some of my stories on Facebook or twitter... perhaps not.  I will share.

Okay, so I haven't actually seen him that well, But I do have some stories.

First couple of nights here I was out taking Mowgli to go potty. I heard strange noises in the woods. Heavy breathing, and the bushes were moving like something large was coming towards me. It was loud enough for Taylor to hear from inside. I ran inside yelling and laughing a bit.

Next night I was up late putting together some hats, Taylor was sleeping and I was with Mowgli and Fungus. I hear something right against the window. It was actually touching the window. I swear I heard growling and saw a big shadow. Mowgli who normally barks at everything he hears just stared at the window and slowly crept behind me. He was terrified.

Two nights ago around 2am I take Mowgli out to go potty. I am pretty cautious since Bigfoot could actually be a crazy person who is out to get small fragile girls who knit. So as Mowgli is doing his business I peer out and look at the lining of the forest. I see a huge shape go into the woods! Once again I run into the house yelling and laughing about it.

The very next morning I walked outside and look into the forest. I started to hear the sound of sticks being hit together! Wood knocking is a known form of communication between primates.

Maybe I watch way too much Monster Quest and X-files..
but
I try not to go out at night anymore..

Yesterday Mowgli and I went out to play in the sun and see if we could spot our neighbor.

Mowgli uses his excellent tracking skills to look for Bigfoot.
Right where I heard the strange noises the first night.
Bigfoot feet?!  No.. just mine.
Where I saw the big dark shape enter the woods.
I got a bit distracted by all the pretty fall colors and the sunshine.. so the hunt was unsuccessful.
No one truly knows what Bigfoot looks like, but there are speculations..

Bigfoot is known to have primate features..
Perhaps a Bigfoot dog? No.. just me and Mowgli wearing our Monkey Hats from the shop.
An artist rendition of Bigfoot. The artist being me..
I kind of just did this to make myself laugh.
It worked.

I will keep you updated on my Bigfoot hunt.

Speaking of Monsters...

I seem to be living with one.

Terrifying. I know.

Perfect Adventures

Fungus had to say goodbye to his kitty-man-hood last Friday. We took him to get neutered at 7:30 in the morning. (This is normally the time I go to sleep!) But I was a good normal human being, and I went to sleep early, and woke up early.
I dropped my little baby off and went to hangout in Memphis all day. I really do mean all day.
We had apartment inspections.. and we needed to be out of the house. With Mowgli.
We were out for nearly 12 hours. I'm not even kidding. We spent all day exploring. I had the time of my life because I love to be out and about discovering new things. Taylor on the other hand got bored real quick. But we were forced to be out of the apartment...
so I didn't even have to argue.
I got my way.
We walked down Beale Street and went into some fascinating shops and talked with some wonderful people. There was one shop that had been around since 1876 and had all sorts of voodoo dolls and spells.
I loved it.

I even got myself a voodoo doll..
(which Mowgli really wants to chew.)
After Beale Street we explored more of downtown and other random roads I insisted turning down.

We found a fabulous antique mall where I got to talk to the shop owner about antique yarn, old books, and cockatiels.
I did pick out some delightful books, including one that reminding me of my mom. A poetry book by James Whitcomb Riley. I read the poems out loud and couldn't stop my laughing. The wonderful spelling and the bright illustrations are so inspiring to me.

We continued on our adventure.

Driving all over the city, back and forth and back and forth.

I took picture after picture and kept crying out,
"Look! Look, how beautiful!"
"Aw Wow! What a pretty road!"
"Stop the car! I neeeeed pictures of this one! Okay.. hurry up, some guy is walking to the car..."
"Ahh! The trees are golden! Loooook!"

We ended the day by picking up a groggy little kitty who was very happy to see me.
I held him and rubbed his belly telling him I would never let that happen to him again.. and as far as I know.. the neutering procedure has never had to be done twice.. so I think I'm in the clear.
I'm not sure who had the worst day.. Fungus having surgery, Mowgli being cramped in a purse or a car all day, or Taylor having to drive around and around while listening to me go on and on about leaves and street names... But I do know who had the best day.

Me.

Friendly Visitors and Chilly Weather

Oh my goodness it's been cold here! It rained for two days straight. Today there was sunlight, but the cold kind.. It's weather like this that makes me glad I know how to knit. I was able to walk to the mailbox (quite the hike to be honest) wearing a nice warm hat and a scarf I made. Speaking of scarves.. I've been thinking of putting some up at the shop. What do you think? I haven't yet hopped on the Cowl Wagon either.. It's something I've been contemplating, and now that my back is feeling a bit better, I might be up to hopping.

The couch still smells and we are still sleeping on an air mattress. The new couch and bed were supposed to be delivered today. We will see. I don't mind making calls. I'm stubborn, I push people and annoy people, but at least I get things done. There is no excuse for a stinky couch and a worn out bed.

Anyways.. I won't get into all that. I will just make myself grumpy.

The rain has brought all sorts of life to my front porch.
I accidentally squished this little one under the door. I was screaming and panicking, he just seemed slightly annoyed. Don't worry, he hopped away safely and even came back the next day.
Mr. Toad, why are you looking over the horizon of grass blades?
Mr. Toad, what is it that you are searching for?
Perhaps a napkin? I see some grass stuck to your face.
Once again I find myself so lucky to be surrounded by nature. We live in a huge apartment complex. Huge. But out of every unit we could have lived in, we were assigned the one with the trees behind it.
It's definitely worth the big clean up and the stinky couch.

Home Not-So-Sweet Home

Saturday was moving day. We packed all day. Funny thing happened, first thing that day I packed up a box full of yarn and lifted it up to take out to the car, and suddenly my back hurt! I could barely lift anything  after that. I almost couldn't even walk. (Still can't)

I drove one car filled with all my clothes and supplies, Mowgli, and Fungus. Fungus kept getting out of his kennel to walk around on my head, and Mowgli wanted to play with Fungus the whole time.
It was not a very fun drive.
We pulled into our new apartment around 2:30 in the morning.

We opened the door to see that the living room was covered with white boards, company posters, filing cabinets, printers and paper shredders. (Including lots of shredded paper.)

In the bedroom there were boxes and boxes from the floor to the ceiling.
In the closets there were tools and screws and more boxes.
In one room there was one small dirty looking bed.

I asked, "We are living here?"
Our apartment had been used as the Memphis office this last summer. They held meetings, stored equipment and eventually had a tech move in after the summer season ended. It was a disaster.

We began to clean the house right away, at 2:15 in the morning.

After hours of box moving, car unpacking, sobbing from back pain, and heavy lifting, we decided to finally make the bed and sleep. We put lots of sheets on that gross looking mattress and finally got in bed, only to notice we could feel the metal springs through the sheets. We tried to sleep, but after about 20 minutes we got out our air mattress.

Next day was full of more boxes to move and things to unpack,
which continued on until today.
I finally sat down on the couch to rest only to smell a terrible smell. I asked Taylor if he remembered to put on deodorant today.
He said he did.
I knew I did, but checked anyways.
I did.

What was that awful smell? The couch I was sitting on.
It looks like the previous owner had decided the mattress was not comfortable enough and decided to sleep on the couch.
I demanded the company send us a new bed and new couch right away.
We are still waiting for a call back.
I will be demanding that Taylor call and ask everyday.
I'm stubborn.

Things found in apartment:
  • 2 dead dried up frogs
  • pipe (not for tobacco use)
  • Dirty underwear
  • Food still in microwave
  • Bottle of rum
  • Basketball
  • Soccerball
  • Lots and lots of used q-tips

After a few hours of vacuuming everything, washing shoe prints from the walls, and mopping up the floor,
our apartment is finally clean enough and looking like a home. Minus a few boxes of clothes I will put away tomorrow, and the stinky couch.
We've emptied almost a whole bottle of fabric cleaner on that thing.
