Shadow Days

So, my weekend was supposed to kick butt.
I was going to get all this stuff done and have so much energy.
Mercury was out of retrograde and it was going to be awesome.
How wrong could I have been?

A little about Mercury Retrograde for those who are not as into Astrology as I am:

Mercury Retrograde is a period of time when Mercury appears to be going backwards against the sky. It happens about 4 times a year. As Mercury goes past the part of it's orbit that is closer to the earth and begins to travel on to the further side of the sun, and from our perspective seems to move in opposite direction. From our angle, Mercury is appearing to move forward, then backwards, then forward as it returns the pass on the Earth. And sometimes Mercury retrograde can have different effects on us depending which sun sign we are in.

So, the retrograde period can effect some more than others, and it may not effect some people at all if they were born during a retrograde time.
For some reason, this past transition affected me lots.

Then there was something I didn't take into much account.
Pre and Post Shadow.

Pre Shadow is the time when mercury is slowing down, and Post Shadow is the time it's speeding back up. A good analogy would be like an employee getting ready for a vacation isn't going to completely check in when it's planning a trip. Or when they come back, it takes them a while to get going again.

The shadow days for this last month were the 25-26th of June, and the 19-20th of July.

What's funny is this last Saturday, you know, the day I was going to work hard and get stuff done...
I slept. I slept over 16 hours. I woke up around noon. Slept again from 2-5 and went to bed early.
I was confused and in a fog all day.

Which is when I did my research on Shadow Days. Only to find out that that's a pretty normal thing.
Which had me thinking, there was a time last month where I slept all day and was in a complete fog. What day was that? I went back through our calendars, (Sterling and I keep extremely detailed calendars) and written on July 25th - "SLEPT ALL DAY!"

I was so shocked.
Before knowing anything about Mercury in Retrograde, Shadow days or any of the effects, I was still feeling them and living them.

It would have been one thing to think, "Okay, there will be some planetary shifts, this weekend will be a sleepy one."

But it wasn't like that.

It makes me wonder, how in tune with Astrology are we? Are some more in tune than others? Is every retrograde going to be like this? Do we get more in tune with things like that as we awaken?

It's a learning process for sure. And I'm happy Mercury is out of retrograde and slowly going back the path it was on. But, I'm questioning what else is out there that will affect me so much? It's a magical world out there guys.

  1. Oh my gosh, thank you so much for making this post. I'm pretty into Astrology so I knew about the retrograde, but I've never heard of the shadow days before and it makes SO MUCH SENSE! Saturday was absolutely awful for me, I was at work and everything just seemed to go wrong, I had a really rude person come in (I work at a dentists as the receptionist) and by the afternoon I was just in bed sobbing my heart out, yet the Sunday was totally fine!
I find that some Mercury Retrogrades don't seem to affect me at all, and then others will totally mess me up. I'm a Capricorn with Aries Moon and Virgo Rising. My boyfriend tends to get affected by them most of the time (he's Libra Sun with Leo Rising and Cancer Moon), so I always let him know when they're coming so we know to keep it in mind if we start getting snippy at eachother (he can be pretty moody anyway, MR just makes it way worse!)

  2. I am also a Capricorn, only my moon is in Gemini and I have Aries rising. Do Capricorns feel retrogrades more than other signs? Or does it just seem like it? Or is it because my moon is in Gemini?

  3. I'm really not sure. I think everyone feel it a little, and a little differently. I'm not too sure about your signs. I'm still learning myself.

  4. I'm not too sure on my own moon and rising signs, though I'm pretty sure I'm Capricorn rising. I'm still learning and I need to learn more! It's all so fascinating to me, ESPECIALLY when things line up! This retrograde affected Sterling and me a lot. He's Virgo, and Mercury is his ruling planet and the planet of the throat chakra, so communications were crazy for Sterling. Haha we didn't fight, but communication was a bit off sometimes... It's so interesting to learn about though!

  5. Have you ever looked at astro.com? They charge for many of their products, however, their samples and charts can be quite insightful. The personality profile and the interactive chart are great! I am Sun in Pisces, Moon in Taurus, and Cancer rising. They always seem accurate, unlike other resources I have encountered.
