Holiday Cheer

I need some cheer. This week has been rough. Communication problems, walls going up, skin thickening.. and I'm feeling rather alone. And overwhelmed. The holiday season is usually a busy one for the hat shop. I keep it open for Christmas gifts and for cold ears. I also keep it open to help aid in my Christmas shopping. In the year 2013 I was laid off twice, and now I work full time from home... I don't get a Christmas Bonus. I don't get holiday pay. I have orders that need to be out by a certain day, and rent to pay for. I have a high gas bill, and today I have a car that won't start. I decided late November I wouldn't be able to afford much of a Christmas.  Sterling and I decided our Christmas gifts would be some courses online to get our Metaphysical Practitioner Certificates. And I'm going to try to make him some warm goodies so he can have things to unwrap on Christmas Day. I also decided to do handmade gifts and paintings this year for Christmas. Totally in over my head. I have a large family. And I told them I would do paintings.. and I'm running out of time. On top of my Christmas orders, and my Christmas gift making I'm loosing my mind just a bit.

And yes, today my car wouldn't start. I bought the car about a year ago from my parents. The car has always had problems starting in the winter. In fact, I think most Chevy Cavalier's have this problem. I have a battery charger pack to help jump it, but it wasn't working either. Finally around noon we were able to get the car running. This winter is going to be exhausting if the car does this every day.

I am keeping the heater on low still to help keep the ridiculous heating bill too high. Both dogs are snuggled together on a heating pad. At night it get's so cold we all snuggle together like a pack of dogs. And in the mornings we all tip toe our way to the dreaded door to go outside. I make sure the heated blanket and heating pads are ready for them every tie they get back.

Winter came, and it came fast. Maybe it's seasonal depression, maybe it's being totally overwhelmed... but I'm not happy lately. I tried to cheer myself up a bit by taking photos of the house. It's decorated up in happy sparkly lights, and perhaps capturing them will help lighten my mood.

My house is so dark.. I have huge thick curtains to keep cold air out, warm air in, so the pictures always turn out a little dark.. I'm not sure if I like it, or hate it.

This helped a little.. and so did this.

Dressing pups in snow hats and santa costume always raises sprits.

  1. Oh my goodness those pups are just so darn cute! It definitely put a smile on my face!

I'm really sorry that you have to go through all this chaos because you definitely don't deserve it! I'm sure you'll get these Christmas presents all finished just in time for Christmas and I know your friends and family are going to love them! As for the car, I think just about everyone has problems with their car once winter hits us. Maybe it just needs to get used to the colder weather? I hope it doesn't give you much trouble the rest of this winter!

  2. Congratulations on the decision to get your practitioner's license you two! You are a dynamic duo. And will be even more dynamic with your training and all that comes with getting licensed. Your pups are everything cute. Darlings, full of love, and warm. Love your tree. Stay warm, Norma

  4. You are totally overwhelmed! May I suggest that for family that lives close by to make their gifts after Christmas? I'm sure they will understand.

  5. i read somewhere that pine scented candles help with dreary winter times. i looked all around and just got one with aroma beads to make it smell even better. can't wait to burn it in my tiny flat when i get back to hong kong! if the pine around your house isn't smelling nice anymore, maybe try the candle. :)

  7. I've been feeling the exact same way! I always get the winter blues and this time, money is tight, I've got finals, AND I've decided to go back to work (I start 2 days before my finals. I'm an idiot. And a nervous wreck) BUT I do have my first Christmas tree in 5 years, and it's nice to sit by it at night and relax. It helps.

  8. Oh my! Winter blues take the fun out of Christmas, right? Everyone is pressured enough to complete the gifts that they'll distribute to their families and friends. Anyway, how's you car now? Have you consulted a mechanic regarding this? Best if you do, so you'll know exactly what is wrong with your car.

  10. Nothing worse than your car stalling in the middle of winter. Hopefully it didn’t have that problem all throughout the season. Last year wasn’t the most productive year for me as well. But hey, 2014 is here. Time to shake it off and start fresh. Hang in there!
