Hey guys! I'm doing a blog hop here on the blog today.
Mary has been a friend of mine for a while now, and her art is quite amazing!
She just released a stencil line and I was given a stencil to use in my art.
I was supposed to have this posted last night, but my computer problems this week has been unreal.
Anyways... I kept thinking about what painting to use it one, and remembered a painting that I hadn't posted here because I just didn't like it that much.
It was lacking dimension.. So, I thought, what better way to give it some dimension then with a stencil?
The stencil is heavy duty, and very easy to use.
I used parts of it, and the full stencil to get the affect I was looking for.
I can honestly say, it gave my painting the look I was wanting!
A very subtle overlay of some geometric shapes and patters on a very organic looking piece.
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
About the Artist:
Mary C. Nasser earned her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art: Painting from Michigan State University. During her graduate studies, Mary also studied Medieval Art History abroad in London, England, and attended a monotype workshop in Mexico City. In 1996 she was a visiting artist and guest lecturer in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where she lectured at Academia de Arte Vizuale “IOAN ANDREESCU” (Academy of Visual Arts) and exhibited her work in "Deschideti U.S.A." (Open the Door) at the Casa Matei.
Mary has had more than 20 solo shows in the past 10 years and has been awarded numerous residency opportunities. She was Artist-in-Residence in 2008 at Red Cinder Creativity Center in Hawaii, where she lived near active volcanoes that continually recreate the landscape. Her latest residency was at Osage Arts Community. Since 2007, she has participated in three public art projects in St. Louis, too.
Throughout the year, Mary leads Garden Art activities at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Healing Through the Arts workshops at Mercy Children’s Hospital and the David C. Pratt Cancer Center.

ReplyDeleteWow, there's still hope for me - when I create something and I'm not happy with it, I just put it up, but knowing one can add a stencil or even gesso to an old project it's an excellent idea to repurpose your art. Great thing what you did with that stencil!
