Tradition

This is the third year in a row that I've gone to a state fair.
Two years ago, I was in North Carolina, I watched a Hog Races.
Last year, I went to the fair while I lived in Arkansas. I ate a fried twinkie.
This year, I went to the State Fair in Utah, and thought about buying an ostrich.

I decided, I love fairs, and carnivals. I plan on going every year.. and hopefully being in a different state at the time.
Each state has a different flair. I like that.

Fried chicken and hush puppies were present at the North Carolina Fair.
Fried frog legs and fried twinkies were present at the Arkansas Fair.
And Utah had lots of beeswax products.

All fairs had similar things too.
The animals.. oh the animals. I love the cute furry baby ones.
Stormy weather. I love the storm clouds.
Lots of weird people. Oh, how I love that. (Don't worry, I'm sure I'm one of them.

Each year, I consider getting an animal. North Carolina I wanted a horse. Arkansas I wanted a rabbit, and a baby duck! This year I wanted that scary ostrich which looked like a dinosaur.
But then again, I always try to justify buying a cute little bunny.

I can't wait for next years state fair. I wonder which state I will be in at that time.

This weekend I have plans to get my car fixed, take the doggies up to the canyons, and take pictures of the changing leaves!

Do you have any plans?
Oh, and while you are here, hop on over here, and enter to win $50.00 credit to my art shop! As well as some other wonderful things.

Oh.. and MY GOODNESS. Thank you all sooo much for the lovely comments to Brad. Some of them made me tear up! Aw, you are all wonderful.

  1. So far, I've spent my weekend making gluten free fudge, gluten free pizza and sauce, and sewing up some new fall inspired flannel sleeping bottoms. I'm hoping to get to sew up some skirts tomorrow.

You actually started a tradition for me last year! I read that you liked to catch a leaf on the first day of fall for good health during the winter. I did it last year, and I did it again yesterday! I even caught one for my cat. :)

  2. Ooooh! GORGEOUS pictures. And I love your memories of each fair. So fun! I haven't visited a fair since I was a teeny tiny little kid. I miss them dearly. Jen and I must go sometime!!! <3 I still remember the horse I visited with, her name was Pepper. I wanted to take her home. ^_^

  3. Welllll....I actually can't stand fairs...or amusement parks...or anything with crowds and crowds of people and fried foods at the same time. LOL! If I could go to the fair when no one else was there, I'd probably like it a lot more. I do have fond memories of the animals though. I think the last time I was at a fair, I was probably 17 or 18. It was hot, humid, and smelly. Ick...lol! But, it was also a lot different than I remember fairs of my preteen days.

The ostrich is really awesome! I want one too (sort of...kind awesome in a scary way). We've been considering a bunny too.

  11. This was my first time at the state fair! My parents used to go all the time while dating, until one year my mom said "oh those bunnies are so cute! I want one that has horns!" (She thought jackalopes were real!) And after that, we've never let her live it down and she never went back until this year.
