4 Step Program

After Mowgli passed away I became very very depressed. Not a day has gone by that I haven't teared up or cried a little from missing my sweet baby. Before I start to cry (even more) I will change the subject slightly.

Since that depression I started working really hard to get myself in a happier place. I knew it wasn't going to happen where I was at. I have been living with my parents since November, and most of my stuff has been in boxes. Most of my supplies have not been unpacked, so I have not been able to feel comfortable enough to create new things. I felt depressed at home because I no longer heard Mowgli's paws following me around the house, or saw his smiley face when I came home at night.

So, I developed a 4 step program:

1. Get a job.
2. Get a car.
3. Move out.
4. Get a new puppy.

I am proud to say that I have accomplished the first two within the first month of this 4 step program.

I recently got a wonderful job. I will tell you more about it as time goes on.. but my new job allows me to be creative and design.. I'm loving it. I love not working at a phone job in a call center... I was terrified that I would have to get a job like that. I would have, I would have done anything to accomplish my 4 step program.

Last week I purchased a car. I had been saving up and up for a car for a very long time.. and my price range was low. I needed a decent car for under 1000. I didn't think I would ever find anything that would work.. But I went car hunting with Brad and his parents. His step dad is a car expert and a mechanic and we found a cute little car from the 80's. I drove it and loved it. It isn't the nicest car in the world, but to tell you the truth, I don't like nice things.. I am a disastrous and clumsy girl, I wouldn't feel comfortable in a nice car. So I bought myself a Mazda 626 from 1988. We were born in the same year, how fun! So far Stitch has been a really good car. (10 points to whoever can guess why I named him stitch.) Brad and Destinee, you can't guess.
The next two steps on my four step program are in progress. I've been looking for pet friendly apartments in my price range for months now. Utah is one of the worst places to find any pet friendly apartments. I won't give up though. I'm determined to finish.

  2. congrats on the job and car! and i feel your pain with finding pet friendly apartments. it's so frustrating and then the ones we do find, require pet rent. how ridiculous is that?! i would always tell cyrus to pick up his toys to earn his pet rent hehe

  3. As we say in Israel, Kol Hakavod! (It literally translates to "all the respect" but means great going!)

  4. Good job and congratulations! Recognizing a problem and taking action to solve it is something that some people won't accomplish in a lifetime - let alone a month. :)

I know exactly how you feel - if I'm not creating or if I'm not able to at least have all my "stuff" out, I get really down too. Keep it up!

  8. It's good you're being productive and accomplishing a lot of things to get yourself through this rough time.

That car is pretty cute. I'm currently driving the newest car I have ever driven (12 years old). I would feel pretty insane driving a brand new car. In fact I'm sure I would break it immediately.

What a bummer about pet friendly apartments being rare in Utah! It's hard to find a place that ISN'T pet friendly in my area of Georgia. Good luck in your search!

  9. ooh congrats on the car and the job! I'm sure the other stuff will fall into place. you just need that healing time. and maybe having another pup to squeeze and love will help.

    good luck!

  10. Way to go! It's always a good idea to set goals to get yourself motivated, especially when you make them manageable!

Now, Stitch? Is that a Lilo and Stitch reference? Or more like a stitch in time saves nine? Either way, it's a cute name for a car! My car is named Orion, because when I got him he needed a new EVERYTHING... except a belt, which was still in working order. haha

  12. Congratulations on the new job and car. You're an inspiration! It's tough trying to find a job and the fact that you did it within a month is great. Keep up the good work. By the way I love the name you gave your car. Is it from the movie Lilo and Stitch? Love that movie!!

  16. I stumbled across your blog through stumbleupon of course on one of your awesome contributions to craftgawker where you basically did a tutorial on how to make cheap dresses, and wow was I impressed. So I decided to take a look at your blog and I'm in love with it, by the way...awesome CAR regardless of age or anything, anyone who understands the value of money and wants to do anything and everything to save is my kind of person. All the way up until recently I use to be caught up in having the best of everything and wanting to be like everyone else, and I always wondered why I wasn't happy...then i discovered, DUH heather your not being yourself...so now I'm trying to make life simple, and it seems as if you do that, and i like that about you, I feel that you are being true to yourself. Thanks for sharing your blog :)
