Oh, My Darling

Please send some love and positive energies to my darling friend Mowgli. I noticed him walking funny today around 3:00 pm. He stopped using his leg. I didn't think it was hurt, because when a dog has a hurt leg, they limp. Mowgli wasn't limping.. he was dragging his leg and stumbling around. He also had vomit around his mouth. My heart broke.

I was home alone at the time, and couldn't get a hold of my mother. Luckily I was able to get a hold of Brad, who drove the both of us to the vet. I was holding my baby's head against my heart almost the whole drive there. We got to the vet and took some x-rays. The doctor was not able to find anything wrong on the x-rays, he wasn't able to explain why Mowgli's back leg no longer had feeling.
Thinking it may be something neurological the doctor gave me some anti-inflammatory medicine. He said he really didn't know what was going on, and by Monday if Mowgli wasn't better I need to take him to a specialist.
Brad finally dropped us off at home, where Mowgli promptly threw up. A few minutes later he started to cry and whine while looking at his back legs.

He now has lost the feeling in both of his legs, he is unable to walk and seems to be in pain.

The vet bill has taken a huge chunk out of my "vehicle/rent fund" and I'm afraid to see the specialist, because specialist sounds like expensive to me.

Please keep Mowgli in your thoughts and prayers.

He is my sweetheart, and I hate to see him in pain.

  1. Ask in advance if they'll take payments. Most will if you ask/explain the situation. Especially if you have relatively good credit. Sending happy thoughts up for him. Hope everything turns out well for both of you.

  10. I'm so sorry. My dog was on steroids for awhile due to inflammatory of the brain. But those where not her symptoms. She ended up being diagnosed with dog tremors. She got cured by being on steroids for 6 months. I truly understand what your going threw. With it spreading that fast maybe contact the same vet to keep him informed. I'm sending him love and puppy kisses his way.

  11. I wish Mowgli all the best and a quick recovery. My sister's dog lost ability to use her hind legs and they ended up needing to do surgery on her back because it was a pinched nerve. Praying for y'all!

  13. Poor Mowgil you must be so worried. It could be paralysis ticks, is he treated for ticks? Luckily where I live we don't have them. I don't know weather there in the are you live or not. Hope he gets better soon and it doesn't cost you too much.

  16. Hi..

Do you have ticks in the US? In Australia dogs can get things called paralysis ticks. These little things (almost the size of fleas) burrow in to their skin and release poison. In dogs, the first sign is vomiting and then the back legs stop working. After there it goes downhill. If where you live is susceptible to tics, definitely take him back to the vet straight away.

  17. Oh you must be so scared not knowing what is wrong with him! I'm sending Mowgli all my love and wishes.
Sometimes those symptoms can come from a snake or spider bite (I'm no vet though)

I really hope he gets better soon :(

  20. "Ticks that cause tick paralysis are found in almost every region of the world. In the United States, most reported cases have occurred in the Rocky Mountain states and the Pacific Northwest."

I'm not a vet either but this sounds like a possible reason to me. There, you don't need a specialist, you have all of us looking out for you. Hope he gets better soon!
