Plant Your Own Garden

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning, and company doesn't mean security. You begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises. You begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult not the grief of a child. You learn to build all your roads on today, because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans. After a while, you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So, plant your own garden, and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. You learn that you really can endure... that you really are strong, and you really do have worth. - Veronica A. Shoffstall

  1. This was written by Jorge Luis Borges. Shoffstall only translated from the original which is in Spanish. :)

  2. Amazing! I knew it was different from some point on, but never thought of it this way...

  3. You really have no idea how much I needed this today. I've been so frustrated with people not being who I thought they were and getting me out of my independent woman rhythm. It's like, you finally trust someone to let them in and expect the same back, but it doesn't necessarily happen. Regardless, I am so glad I read this post :)

  4. Oh my gosh. I read this and I fell in love with you for a second. Then I saw it was a quote, and now I'm in love with Veronica A Shoffstall. Whoever she is.

I don't know if you go to poetry night at Coffee Pod at all, but you should. There are some really profound things that are said. One of my favorites was, "I am nothing more than my posture at dinner."

For some reason Veronica's quote reminded me of that.

Not sure why I'm still typing,l but apparently it's happening. I feel like I should tell you, you are my proof that awesome people exist in Provo. Can't wait to move there in the fall.

    XOXO
