Poor Little Wicky

Poor little Wicket is recovering from his surgery, and his vaccines, and his blood tests. I'm giving him lots of love and kisses. The vet addressed a big concern of mine... Wicket is a big baby.
It's not that I spoil him too much even... cause I don't! He is just a big baby. If he hears a scary noise, he starts to cry and hides under the couch. If a big car drives by he screams and runs inside. He won't go on walks, he doesn't like the front yard even. It's a very interesting.
He seems to be scared of just about everything. I've tried several things to "toughen" him up. The vet recommended I get another dog friend to help him learn to be more of a dog rather than a big baby.
So, I'm thinking about looking into getting a rescue dog from the shelter. Someone who is a bit older, who is in need of a loving home and a younger brother.

  3. that's so cute! i have a jack Russel that's like that, he gets scared by thunder, and crys if i walk him out anywhere that his little tender feet could step on anything that isn't as soft as carpet!!

  4. Rachel, you should look into something I just bought for my own dog's anxiety! It's called Thunder Shirt and the website has instructional training videos for dealing with all kinds of anxieties etc. in dogs. The shirt is only $36.00 and has a full money-back guarantee! Good luck and speedy recovery to your adorably anxious baby.

  5. Just give him a little time. My dog acted the same way but once he got some age on him he grew out of it.

  6. Getting a second dog was the best thing we did for our little guy, Splash! He had the worst anxiety and had some bad boredom behaviors. Now he is happy as can be and a lot more relaxed.

I know you are passionate about Wicket's happiness and will take the time to find a solution-- whether it is a new big brother or special training. <3

  7. introducing another dog to your family before wicket's issues are addressed may make things better, but i've also actually seen it make things worse. like, a thousandmilliontimes worse. please first consider an in-person consultation with an animal behaviorist/ positive reinforcement trainer who specializes in fearful dogs. there's also a wonderful book i love by deborah wood called "help for your shy dog." i think you'll find it really helpful!

  8. Wicket is so adorable and you've taken some great pictures. I hope you can find a good friend for him and help him relieve his anxiety. This breed does tend to be a bit skittish, very tough though. Good Luck!

  11. You can always bring him over to meet my 80lb Ace... who is also a big baby. Maybe they can help each other out!
