Interview With Harmony!
Please give us a brief bio, where you are from, who you are, and how you started in this field?
Hi, I am Harmony, a mixed media artist, mommy to a creative little soul with a new baby on the way, wife to an amazing partner, and lover of all things crafty, handmade, and DIY! I live in Florida with my family and recently completed my graduate work in Marriage and Family Counseling, but have no intention on working a single day in an office. I am always finding new ways of seeing typical things, and this love has fueled my creative aspirations. I started painting to heal my own soul and then grew passionate about inspiring and encouraging other "closet creatives" like myself to release their inner joy through color, texture, and creative play.
When did you first discover your creative talents?
I first realized that I had an eye for spacial design and color when I was 13. I needed an outlet for dealing with all the angst and drama that comes with growing up as a teenage girl and discovered that through painting and art journaling, I could make some sense of all my emotions and begin to craft my own dreams.
What inspires you to keep going and how do you keep yourself motivated?
My greatest inspiration is my son. He's only 3 years old and LOVES creating things. His creative process is so free of all boundaries and rules that we adults put on ourselves. He doesnt have to work at keeping his art fresh, nor does he struggle to hang on to the playfulness and joy of creating like adults do. He helps me stay spontaneous, playful, and take risks in my work. My motivation, however, comes entirely from my deep belief that everyone should pursue the passions of their heart and find inspirational goals to always reach for. Even if I never accomplish all my hopes and dreams for my art in the end, I will have found unending happiness in the journey to get there.
How will you describe your style?
My Artwork has always had a very strong graffiti and abstract influence. I love strong lines and stark contrasts with unusual pops of color. I also would say that I exhibit strains of folk art with a shabby chic feel.
Describe yourself in 5 words.
Seeker, Dreamer, Soulful, Creative, Playful
Anything else you would like to add? Favorite quote? Words of advice?
My absolute favorite quote of all time is one by author Ray Bradbury "Don't think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It's self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can't try to do things. You simply must do things.” I always keep a copy of it penned on a bit of paper and taped somewhere close to my creating spaces. It reminds me to create from my heart and soul and not my head.
