Last weekend Brad and I went on a little adventure.
I was recommended to visit some places by a friend on twitter.
So, I did just that.

The first week in a new apartment, there are always things you need.
A new broom, tables, shelves, chairs... all sorts of things.

I had been on the hunt for the perfect chair for my shop.
Then I learned, chairs are expensive.
So, we added thrift stores onto our agenda.

Our Adventure Included:
World Market
Dancing Cranes, where I got the Devi Chai, just like I was told to. And it was gooood!
A huge record store for Brad
Deseret Industries, (The thrift store of Utah)
Ikea

Turns out it changed my life to a point I couldn't say goodbye.

I nearly gave up at least 3 times.

It's pretty rare to have a real successful day of shopping.
Where you find everything you need, for just the price you want.

Love and Kisses

Valentines Day is one of my favorites.

Well, it hasn't always been, but now it is.

I wanted to share with you one of the things I did for Brad this year.

I love handmade gifts.

Some don't..

But, I do.

So, every year I plan on making something for Brad.

Last year I sewed him a cute fabric notebook page

and embroidered a sweet little love note on it.

Then stuffed it into an old vintage bottle with some sand.

This is what I did this year.

Last night, I hid these hearts everywhere.
Today, I will give him an empty jar that says "How much I love you"
And tell him to keep an eye out..
(I purposefully hid a few where he would find before he got the jar.. to confuse him)

The joke is, he will never be able to find all of these.
They will keep appearing even in a year or so.
And I'll keep making some and hiding them.

I thought myself a very clever girl.

But little did I know, he had a surprise of his own.

I'm a pretty lucky girl.

I also took the opportunity to paint my nails for the holiday.
I didn't realize I painted the hearts with crackle paint...
So, I've got broken hearts on my fingers.

And of course, you can't have a Valentines Day without kisses.

On the surface of the Earth exactly now there is war and violence and everything looks horrible. Bitter Sweet Goodbyes

Yesterday was a bittersweet day..
We all came to the sad decision to find Charlie a new home
The new house has old hardwood floors, with soft wood that got scratched up under his feet.
Even after clipping his nails, (which he hated) the problem didn't go away.
Our downstairs neighbors complained about the click clacking, and I know what it's like to be them.
So we were constantly telling him to sit down, or go to bed.. which just isn't fair to anyone.
I bought a bunch of rugs, but I can't afford to cover the entire house.
He and Destinee's kitty don't get along well at all, so their scuffles were a big loud mess as well.
And, going back to my promise when we first got him in July, "If him and Samson don't end up getting along, we will find Charlie a better home. Samson was here first."
I thought about all the possibilities for Charlie.
I thought of how much happier he would be in a house where he could be the only dog, and that thought made me happy. He had the tendency to push Wicket out of the way when Wicket was being loved. He had the habit of pushing Wicket over while he was going potty, and marking right where Wicket was standing. He would have loved to be the only dog in someone's life.
Charlie is a very sweet and loving dog.. but with the complaints from downstairs, the scratches to the hardwood floors, and Charlie having to wait in his bed.. We decided to find him a better home.
I put an ad up, and some people came over to see him.
An older couple who just lost their dog.
They were looking for a Corgi, and someone to give lots and lots of love to.
Their kids had all moved out, so they needed someone.
The wife sat on the floor with him, and he jumped into her lap and stared into her eyes.
Charlie is very good at making people fall in love with him.
And he is very very good at falling in love with people.

I told them all about Charlie. How he loves to play fetch, go on car rides, watch movies, and snuggle.
They decided he was the one. I teared up a bit, because I was sad we had to do this, but happy he found a family to love him all the time. In a house they owned with a big open space for play time, and no downstairs neighbors.
They opened up their car door, and Charlie jumped right in, without looking back at me.
He was never nervous about the whole thing, never anxious, or upset.
I really felt like I did the right thing.
Charlie needed a freer home, and he needed to be the center of someone's attention.
He needed to live a life where no one complained about him walking, or scratching the floors.
He needed them, like they needed him.
And I saw that the moment his new momma looked at him, then looked at her husband with that warm smile of love.

Yesterday when I first posted about this decision on Facebook, I had a lot of negative comments.
I want you all to know, that this decision was thought over, and I had Charlie's best interest in mind.
And the best interest for everyone, the neighbors, the kitty who hated him, and his potential new parents.
I know I could have clipped his nails to the quick, or put rubber covers over them. I could have had him be more of an outside dog, I could have spent hundreds of dollars on rugs, and hundreds of dollars to resurface the floors... Or I could have found him a home that needed him more than me and Wicket. I really do feel good about my decision.

Today is going to be a beautiful day.
Brad and I are going to Salt Lake today to search for furniture and other fun things for the house.
I promised if he would take me today, I wouldn't bother him all weekend so he could do music.

Today includes:
Ikea
World Market
Dancing Cranes
A drink called Devi Chai

A friend on Twitter recommended most of these things to me. I'm excited!

Welcome To My Home!

I finally have photos of my new home.

I've never done a "house tour" before.. so this is a first..

The entire house was smudged and blessed the way I was taught
from friend I made while living in California.
He is a Native American Healer, and he felt I needed know how to bless and clarify houses.
(This was when I worked as a medium for a paranormal investigating team.. Very fun.)
Having strong Native American roots myself, I was very honored to learn this.
The house now has a very peaceful and calm feeling.
Plus the smell of sage is wonderful.

Here is our living room.

We have lots of bookcases, and a small TV.

That's how I like it, except sadly there is a lot of room on our bookcases at the moment.

The living room is full of my favorite little things.

Masks from Italy and Hawaii.

A calligraphy set and fan from China.

I'm quite the collector, and I love that I can finally have space for my displays.

Next we shall go into the kitchen.
We have a small bet going..
Who will be the first to break something from my little china cabinet?
The cat? Andrew? Or Kyle?
We will see after tomorrow's house warming party.
My bet is on the cat.

The kitchen is decorated with my vintage and antique goblets and tea sets,
ranging from the 20's to the 60's.
The walls are yellow, and the decor is red with hints of green.
I love the kitchen.

Next lets go down the hall to my bedroom..
Where the walls are made of stucco,
and it's near impossible to get a nail through.
Where my headboard is some curtains and a huge window.
Where my dresser is a giant mess.
And where Mowgli's ashes sit next to my bed..
Next to his coon that Wicket and I snuggle with on lonely nights.

And next we take a little walk into the shop.
Where I can hang my door beads,
and put up all sorts of decorations, where no cat is allowed to go.
Where stacks of blank canvases wait for me to fill them up,
and stacks of already filled up canvas's wait to be shipped
to their new home in Georgia this week.

Where everything has a place..
except me, since I'm still waiting on furniture.

It's a place where I can put out my favorite oddities,
like bird bones, sea shells, found feathers, and tarot cards.
A place for my inspirations and collections.

And of course a little bed for Wicket for when we hang out together.

And then as you leave my little house,

I hope you notice these.

Sometimes I get so scared that I'm not living enough.

I can't just sit on the couch and do nothing.

That thought scares me.

I hate wasting days doing nothing.

If I feel as if I haven't contributed, I get very sad and anxious.

I guess everyone has the option to live, or to live well.

Finishing Touches

The new house is about 99% finished. I can't wait to show you pictures.
But, just to clarify, I do not own this house. I'm just renting it.
The approval process was background checks from the rental company.
But it is MY house to me!
I just have a few more things I need to get for The Studio.
(Yes, I just turned it into a proper noun.)
I need a nice rug or two, and a beautiful comfy chair.

It's beautiful. Ah, I can't wait for pictures.

Here are a few I snapped outside on my way out this morning.

And, to show you that I am capable of talking about other things besides the house...

Brad and I went to the antique mall a few days before the big move.

I think they have a no photography rule..

So, I would pull out the camera real fast, snap a picture all while coughing.

I think it worked.

Besides, I go there often enough the owner recognizes me and likes me.

Also, I'm officially starting a Star Wars collection now that I have a place to put it.
So far, I have the Wicket Pez Dispenser, a lunch box, and a pencil box.
I'm going to need a lot more.
I've convinced myself to go back for this entire set.
Or at least Darth Vader.
If he is still there.

Oh yes!
And I'm sorry I haven't been responding to comments these last few days.

Oh Hello New House!

I'm currently sitting in the old apartment.

On the floor, where the couches used to be.

I love when things fall into place.

This week has literally been a blur.

Here is how it went:

Brad and I drove home a different way, so I could see the park where I used to take Mowgli on walks.

I saw a duplex for rent, and called the company. That place was rented out, but another one was available. It allowed pets, and had a small room for a study or studio. We decided to apply, and the company said that a lot of people showed interest in that house, but no one was accepted. Scary. We kept our thoughts positive, because I've been dying to get out of this one. The next day we were told we were approved. I posted our current apartment, and got to work cleaning, and painting, and filling holes. I talked to the current landlord and he said we should sign that other lease, in case this one didn't sell. I told him to not worry about that, and when I put my mind to stuff, I make it happen. So, I spent 12 hours packing and cleaning, and painting and scrubbing. My phone was ringing off the hook. I was constantly showing the house. I think we had 8 or 9 different people come look at the house. I told them all, that if they were heavy sleepers, they would love this place, but if they were light sleepers they might want to sleep in the other bedroom. I was honest about the place, but people were still interested. I emailed our land lord tons of applications, and he got back to me this morning, while I was showing another person the house... He told me he just approved a couple, and they would be moving in on Tuesday. Now all that's left in this house are a few things, some vacuuming, and that's it.

The new place is a mess.. but it's a beautiful one.

GUYS, it's been crazy lately. BUT we are 80% moved in to the new apartment.. After 12 hours of moving and cleaning, and showing the apartment to people, I slept there last night, and actually SLEPT! Then this morning, we got word that my old place has been sold! I will post pictures as soon as I have internet service! <3 <3 <3

Hello friends! Your good thoughts worked! We've been approved! There WAS a moment of pain when I realized I would have to pay THIS month's rent at my current apartment, and just hope that it sells.. but today is full of packing and showing the apartment to new people.. so keep sending good thoughts! And I will post pictures so soon!
I'm a very excited girl right now. Like a kid in a candy shop.. or better yet, an artist in a new art studio... cause that's how it is!

I am not prepared for a full outfit post today.

These are some snap shots I took real quick of my new Star Wars shirt.

I mixed it with a very noisy sweater, and it didn't match one bit..

and I liked that.

I am not sure if I have all that much to say today..

other than I haven't felt quite like myself lately.

It's probably the lack of sleep,

and the stress and anxiety or trying to get a new home.

Hello darling house with your cute mailbox, and your porch bench.
Your living room is three times the size of my current living room.
So is your kitchen.
And your backyard.
And my dear house, you happen to have a tiny room in the back..
that slants downward ever so..
with yellow walls, and a big window,
It calls me.
"Rachael! Set up your studio here! You won't have to wheel your table over anymore!"
and all I can say is...
"I'm trying!"
And did I mention the tree out front and the trees outback?
Oh, and there is a real bathtub guys.
No more tiny shower.
I love you house.
Let's move in together.

I turned in the application yesterday, and now I'm waiting to hear back.
I'm so bad at waiting.

Did I ever tell you what happened when I got Wicket?

I saw this photo online, I knew he had to be mine.
I called the owners within 2 seconds.
He said a lot of people wanted him, but he would save him for me.
Then I called everyday for a few weeks to make sure he didn't forget.
The poor owner had to attend a funeral, and was very busy...
But I seriously couldn't help but call and remind him that
I wanted the fuzzy puppy with the white tipped tail.

I am a very driven person... when I find something I want,
I do everything in my power to get it.

Rising Above

A little while ago I had a blog reader write to me for advice.

She was going through a hard time, and wanted some of my tips on being happy.

I told her the usual tips, but then I remembered one thing.

One thing that I didn't read about, or see.

I dreamed about this one.

I told it to her,

and realized I hadn't told anyone else this..

And who knows, maybe it could help.

Let's rewind a little bit.

I used to be very depressed.

This was before this blog existed really, before I made art all the time.

Back when I was in a very negative relationship, and far away from anyone to talk to.

I remember a dream I had.

It wasn't a story-like dream, it was a vision-like dream.

All I saw was purple, and a small green vine growing.

The vine circled and twisted as it grew,

But it grew.

I woke up with a wonderful feeling.

And that vision of that vine has never left me.

For a long time, when I was sad, I would imagine that vine growing.

Reaching up to heaven, growing from nothing.

Sometimes all I needed was that instant picture in my head..

with the words, "Rise above" and the simple word "Happiness."

Those were my mantas during my hard times..

and this image was my own personal Mandala.

And I promise this helped me.

This simple image brightened my day, and lifted my spirits.

Something as simple as a beautiful image when you need it most can make all the difference.

And the other day, I decided to paint my vine.

Just the way I saw it when it was in full bloom.

And now I will hang the original in my room.

And hope to sell prints, where I will share it's story,

and hope others will find peace and happiness the way I did.

Fingers Crossed & Eyes Looking Forward

Yesterday Brad picked me up from work, and was driving me home.

I said, let's go a different way home.

I wanted to drive by my old house, and see the old park I used to take Mowgli to.

We drove there, and saw a For Rent sign.

I made him pull over as I called the number.

The lady on the other line told me that place was rented out.

BUT they had another place.

We drove to the other location to see the cutest house in the world.

And today we are going to get to look inside.

I'm beyond excited about this guys.

It has a huge gated backyard for the doggies.

A beautiful tree out front with space for a flower garden

A dishwasher for when I'm lazy.

A little room for an art studio. (Yes?!)

It's walking distance from a grocery store, AND an autozone.

Okay, that's all I know from just visiting, and looking in through the windows like a creeper.

I can't wait to see the inside, and I'm hoping things work out.

So far, things have kind of unfolded like it was meant to be.. and I like that.

I've been wanting to move for months.

Our current place is so tiny, but I can handle that.

The upstairs neighbors get to control the heat. So, it's always too cold, but I can handle that.

But what I can't handle, is the lack of sleep I've been experiencing.

If you are a twitter follower, you've probably heard.

I don't sleep anymore.

The neighbors never sleep, and the floors are so weak.

I get woken up with ever step and creak.

I'm not meaning to rhyme!

Anyways, it's caused all sorts of problems for me.

Anxiety, nightmares, depression, headaches, sleepless nights, etc.

I'm ready to move.

So, let's please keep our fingers crossed

that the inside is big enough for the bedrooms,

and that I will be able to afford this move.

But things work out the way they are meant to.

And if this one doesn't work out,

another one will.

And I have a whole slew of paintings to show you..
But I will show you only three today.

Holga Camera Giveaway!

Originally, I wanted to do this in December, but the flood took off with the original one I purchased..

So I had to get another.

Below are some sample photos I took with my Holga.

You can do single and double exposures.

It takes black & white film, and color.

It even gives photos the wonderful light-leaks that are ever so popular.

Photos turn out best in good lighting,

but you get the extra grainy out of focusy ones with darker light.

Weekend Rituals

Yesterday was a nice quiet day of watching Dr. Who, Painting, eating chips and hummus,

and cleaning up after Charlie. Who I now refer to as, Up Chuck.

Now that Up Chuck is feeling better,

today I'll be going out to some thrift stores and craft stores with Brad.

And of course we will be stopping at our two favorite places, Bajio, and Starbucks.

It's our every other weekend ritual.

Caught On Film

There is nothing like a film camera.

I love my holga so much.

I love the fun pictures it takes.

The light leaks, the out of focus, the grain, and the unpredictability.

I love not being able to look at a photo after I take it.

I love taking double exposure photos.

I love hoping a photo will turn out when I get the film delevoped.

And I love getting photos developed and finding I have old photos of Mowgli before he passed away.

This is my first film camera, and a lot of these pictures didn't turn out nearly at all.

I was getting used to the settings, and what kind of light to take photos in.

Some of these pictures are extra grainy and dark.

But I still love em.

And check back soon... cause this is kind of hint for next week.

When I first cut my hair short, I decided to wear lots of girly dresses.

I liked the contrast of boy-short hair, and a girly dress.

I wore floral dresses, army boots, and my hair in a faux-hawk.

I don't feel the need to do that with pink hair as much..

but I love dressing down a girly dress with a blazer, or a "leather" jacket.

What Dogs Can Teach Us

Last week I could tell the dogs were a bit stir crazy.

We decided to load them up in the car and take them up the canyons.

My doggies love adventure just like me,

though this outing was more for them.

We got to a big open space and let them run and be free.

I apologize for the above shot.. So does Wicket.

I watched them run and play, and I thought how great would it be to be a dog?!

Dogs can teach us so much..

Mowgli taught me to forgive quickly.

One day I was very very mad at Mowgli.

He wasn't listening to me, or he had just done a bad potty in the house..

I don't remember.

But I yelled at him, and he was so sad and scared.

I felt incredibly bad.. I sat down next to him and said, "I'm sorry."

I opened my arms and patter my lap to let him know I still love him.

He immediately perked up his ears, wagged his tail and started licking my face.

I was forgiven, without needing to beg for it.

Wicket teaches me to be a bit more cautious.

He is the scardiest puppy I've ever met.

The sound of opening a can of soda makes him jump!

He thinks very thoroughly before he acts.

He doesn't dart out places when he is unsure of anything.

I tend to be very spontaneous, I could use a lesson of caution from little Wicket.

Charlie teaches me to not be ashamed of myself.

Charlie is in the way 98% of the time.

He does weird things, like lick the floors,

make weird gross noises, and even weirder grosser smells.

And when you say, "Oh Charlie... stop licking the floor."

Or "Charlie! You stink! Go to bed!!"

He looks at you with almost a smile..

and you know he is thinking..

"I am who I am!" as he trots off to his bed.

Then I found this little poem, I just had to share.

If dogs were teachers, you would learn stuff like....

· When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
· Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
· Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
· When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
· Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Making The Switch

I've recently decided to make the switch.

THE switch.

I'm going organic.

It's not that big of a deal,

but it is to me I guess.

Just doing my normal thing on the internet,

(you know hitting the stumble button almost mindlessly)

when I seemed to get article after article about going organic,

switching make up, and tooth paste and shampoo,

switching to organic and natural food.

I did my own bit of research for quite some time.

Gathering facts, numbers and statistics.

It didn't take long before I made my decision.

I wrote to Brad, who was at work and said.

"I'm going organic with food, and getting more natural makeup products.

It's something I've always wanted to do.

But certain things wouldn't allow me.. like money, and relationships.

But I feel good about my decision.

I got home and literally threw my deodorant and makeup away.

Anything that contained parabens.

Parabens are a chemical compound found in everyday toiletry products including moisturizers, make-up, shaving foam, tanning lotions and toothpaste.

They are present in processed meats, and medicine.

They have found that parabens have been present in nearly all cases of breast cancer.

That was enough to scare me, even if the link hasn't been confirmed.
Parabens aren't the only thing that scared me..
Even looking into toothpaste scared me a bit.

"Ingredients that are used in the creation of engine degreasers
and floor cleaners should not be going in to your mouth."

I went out and bought new makeup and toiletries

that don't contain harsh chemicals, parabens or sulphates.

I went grocery shopping, and bought new organic food.

This switch won't be hard at all.

I shop at natural food stores for Gluten Free foods,

and I'm used to reading the ingredients of just about everything I put in or on my body.

Organic food is a bit more expensive.
Natural shampoos and conditioners are pricey.
But until I learn to make my own,
and until I have a big enough space for a garden..

I'm sticking to it.
The first bite of that salad was enough to confirm it.
I've never tasted a tomato that was as tomatoey- and it's not even tomato season.

Please don't think I'm paranoid,
I'm really not.
(Though I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist.)

I didn't make any rash decisions,
and it felt pretty good to throw out the cheap makeup.
It feels pretty good to go home and eat healthy.

"Although organic food is more expensive, you can’t put a price tag on good health. Besides, by buying less junk food, you will have plenty of extra money left over to put towards high quality organic food. Although occasional consumption of conventionally farmed food is not likely to do much harm, eating it at every meal amounts to an enormous amount of contaminated food that you put through your body.
Over the course of weeks, months, years, and decades, the toxins accumulate and the consequences can be drastic. If and when you reach the point of disease, you may wonder why you’re suddenly sick. However, it wasn’t sudden at all and maybe that’s something you should consider next time you’re buying food."

Rainy Days In Raleigh

Rainy days are the the perfect excuse...

to wear comfy shoes,

drink your favorite drink,

and wear your brand new sweatshirt.

I got myself an "I heart Raleigh" sweatshirt.

I try to budget my money...

and this took up almost a whole month's worth.

But it was totally worth it.

I said last year, "This time next year, I'll be back in North Carolina."

But then I met Brad,

and that crazy thing called love has kept me here.

So while I can't be in North Carolina,

I can snuggle up in my North Carolina hoodie.

Love Yourself

My Favorite Weather

Now I know why I was in such a fabulous mood today!

SOPA and PIPA have been dropped today!

Part of the email I received:

"We’ve won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today -- the votes we’ve been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled.

The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game. You were heard.

On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday. See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did.

This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever.

The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled. “‘This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. ‘[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’”

I literally did a little dance.

I never talk politics on my blog.

It's supposed to be a happy place!

But when it comes to things like this,

I couldn't sit it out.

I wrote 3 letters to congress,

signed several petitions,

and even made a phone call.

Though, lucky me, the line was busy.

I would have talked the guys ear off.

But in the letters,

I explained that I'm an artist.

A starving artist at that, and that I am living my dream.

If SOPA and PIPA were to pass, I would no longer be able to do that.

Several of my artist, musician, and blogger friends wouldn't be able to continue our dreams.

I know that since PIPA and SOPA have been dropped,

there is a chance they could still come back.

Lobbyist efforts and small amendments

can put internet censorship right back up there again.

But at least they know we won't go down without a fight.

I'm a very feisty girl, and I'm glad I have fellow feisty friends!

I'm very very proud to be part of these numbers.

I'm very proud that several of you guys helped out.

Thank you so much for taking a stand!

Gluten Free Breakfast Bars

Hello!

I'm in a particularly good mood today.

I'm not sure why, because I didn't sleep well,

thanks to Wicket for reverting back to puppyhood

and needing to go potty twice in the night.

Anyways..

I wanted to share a cute little recipe for breakfast bars!

If you are new here,

you may not know,

I'm allergic to gluten.

Which means I can't eat a lot of the stuff at stores.

I'm normally in a huge rush in the mornings,

and I never feel like real breakfast.

So, I'm left with few options.

The one I like best is breakfast bars.

Sadly, gluten free breakfast bars kind of taste like mud,

and bricks.

Plus they are expensive!

So, I decided to make my own.

You will need
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons unsalted butter 
1 cup crisp rice cereal 
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats 

dried cranberries 
chocolate chips
To add in to your liking.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, peanut butter, and butter.
Stir until melted and smooth.
Don't accidentally leave while you wash the measuring spoons..
Cause then you will have to start over.
Like me.

Then, spill the expensive organic gluten free rice crisp cereal on the ground,
and don't be quick enough to clean it before the vacuum dogs swoop in.
Don't worry, this step is optional.

Remove from heat; stir in cereal, oats, and dried cranberries.

Wait two minutes, then stir in some chocolate chips.
Flatten out on lightly greased cake pan or cookie sheet.
Let sit in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
Then cut into bars.

I store mine in the fridge and grab one as I go out the door.
Be careful, the only thing holding these babies together is peanut butter and honey.
When they get warm, they crumble.
But it wouldn't be gluten free if it didn't fall apart.
Right?

This recipe makes about 10 bars.
And they are very delicious.

I'm still very surprised that it hasn't snowed yet.

I talk about change quite a bit, don't I?

Change is always constant.

Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's good.

Last week I painted these girls.

One changing to a tree,

the other changing to water.

There was no real reason I painted them,

other than change is always happening.

Sometimes we can't do anything about it,

sometimes we can.

My dear friends,

I hate politics.

I really do...

But, today I'm taking action

and I hope you will too.

(I'm like Dr Seuss!)

I won't speak too much of it on my blog...

But, I believe in stopping piracy and copyright infringement,

without censorship.

Why Me?!

Has something bad ever happened to you, and your reaction was "Why Me?"

I call it the "Why Me's."

(Clever name, I know.. I'm a clever clever girl.)

Well, I had a really bad case of the "Why Me's."

Like really bad.

And the thing with the "Why Me's" is that it doesn't really do anything.

You don't feel that much better, and it actually just opens a door more even more bad things!

I'm not saying the "Why Me's" were the cause of all my problems,

but they certainly didn't help.

Do you remember last month?

I sure do.

First a flea outbreak, then my car broke down, then the house flooded, and I lost a ton of original paintings, and my favorite tea set broke, and now my hard drive doesn't work with all of my pictures of my sweet Mowgli, and one thing after another just kept happening.

And all the little things that started to fall apart hurt even more.

And I would say,

"Well, of course,

if anything bad out there is going to happen..

it will happen to me."

Which was just a huge invitation for even more bad news to come my way.

The "Why Me's" are a terrible habit.

It's hard to get out of feeling sorry for yourself.

But I've found the cure!

I've done it!

And I want to tell you my secret.

Next time you ask yourself "Why me?!"

with tears running down your face, and hope gone from your heart..

Add a little something to that question.

"Why me?! Because....."

And then expound on that because.

Why is that bad thing happening to you?

(And don't just answer "because I suck")

Here is a petty example,

remember, I was in the midst of the "Why Me's."

Where everything seemed to be going wrong.

All the little things too.

So for Christmas my mom gave me and my sister's a beautiful leaf necklace.

Well, I tried putting it on a few days later, and it broke!

I was angry at the world, that I couldn't even have one little thing.

(That's what the "Why Me's" do to you!)

I was a sad, that out of all three necklaces, mine would break.

Of course.

So I asked myself, "Why me?!" and all of the sudden I had my answer.

"Because I'm the one with the jewelry making tools to fix it."

And besides that, I wouldn't want that to happen to my sisters!

Then one after another I had answers to all of my other "Why Me's"

"Why did my hard drive break? With all of my pictures of Mowgli?

Because I can figure out how to fix it."

"Why did my car break down?

Because I can figure out another way of getting around."

And sometimes the answers were a little forced.

"Why did my house flood? Ruining 36 original paintings?

Because... I'm strong enough to handle even that."

But each answer was empowering enough to cheer me up,

and get me out of the "Why Me's"

And once you answer the "Why Me?" you feel glad it didn't happen to anyone else.

Because it was meant for you, because you now know why.

You are strong enough to handle it,

or you have the tools or resources to fix it.

I of course can't guarantee results.
I can't guarantee that all bad things will go away.
But I can tell you that the more you focus on your problems,
the more you pout and ask "Why me?"
You will seem to find more problems.

Since I've gotten myself out of the "Why Me's" I've felt a lot better.

And each time sometime bad happens..

cause I know it will

I'll face it with my secret weapon.

I made it in photoshop, and used a picture from the New Years Party.

The Art Print Necklace Ordeal

Photographing these necklaces was quite the process.

I wanted to take the photos outside with natural light,

since my apartment gets no good light.

So..

Right before I went out to photograph,

I sliced my finger in half while cooking..

I had to wait for the bleeding to stop before I could operate my camera again.

THEN..

then guys!

I was out photographing when I witnessed our next door neighbor

savagely throw then beat his microwave to death.

He looked horrifying, and upset.

So, I decided to stop photographing for the day.

The next day it snowed.

The next day was just way too cold...

But I was determined.

I put on two pairs of pants, big snow boots, gloves and a big hooded jacket.

Then I finished the job.

And now I'm facing the big task of listing these.

Non of them are in the shop quite yet..

Two Of A Kind

It's been a very long time since I've added anything new to my knitwear shop. I've been trying to make sales a bit slower, while still keeping them, and I feel like I've done a pretty good job.
I love knitting and crocheting, but I don't want it to take over my life.
I was getting so many orders, and so many mean customers, I almost decided to close up shop for good! I was so stressed out, I didn't even like knitting! But instead of just quitting, I put together some tactics to slow sales, and make it fun again.
Since my sales have slowed down, I've been able to focus more on my art shop, and knit more for fun, rather than for "work."
I've been doing a few knitting projects with beautiful high quality wool.
I've knit up 3 beautiful circle scarves, and I decided I couldn't "not" share with others..
So, I decided to make one more of each scarf. One for me, and one for someone else in the world who wants to be two of a kind with me.

This scarf is made with a silk blend wool roving, in brown mustard and yellow.

It's very soft, and warm.

The roving has different thinness and thickness, so it has a lot of variety in it.

The stitch used makes it curl ever so slightly on the ends.

It's "two of a kind" and no one else in the world will have it, but us!

This scarf is made from Icelandic Wool. It's brown, grey and black. It's very thick and warm.

This scarf is a bit scratchy due to the wool, but not scratchy enough to cause any discomfort when worn around the neck.

Oh my, this scarf is a dream.

It's my favorite color of yellow, and it's so soft.

The yarn is made from a wool silk blend, so it's very warm, but also soft.

It's knit with a lace stitch so it's very beautiful and elegant looking.

The Abandoned Water Park

On the way to Disneyland last April, Brad and I passed by a very abandoned water park. We told ourselves we wanted to go explore, but we never got to.. So this time, we were determined.
We did a little research to make sure we weren't going to get eaten alive by guard dogs, or zapped to death by electric fences.
I also wanted to know more about this place.
It's a water park, in the middle of no where.
The park was known as Lake Dolores, and Rock-A-Hoola Water Park. It was built in the 50's and 60's and closed in the 80's but was reopened in 2002 as "The Discovery Water Park." But, it's been closed since 2004.
A lot of the big slides have been sold and shipped to other water parks. All other slides have been taken down, due to vandalism and of course Rob&Big.(Click this to see the water park with all of it's slides, and a bunch of boys nearly kill themselves.)
So, it didn't look too much like a water park when we got there, but it was spooky non the less.

We saw a lot of graffiti, mostly pictures of male genitalia and dirty words.. (Which I don't understand why people feel they have to do that. Can't they just write, "Bob Was Here" and sign it xoxo?? I don't know..)Anyways, I tried to avoid taking photos of that, but it's likely that I missed some, and for that I apologize.
The Oriental looking arches are actually the posts that held up the slides.. we had to use our imaginations.
And by the way, the doors were not locked. The gates were wide open, and there were no signs saying do not trespass.

The most eerie part was walking around and "feeling" it.
My very first job was at a water park, I worked at the concessions.
I had random flashbacks of wearing baggy t-shirts, long khaki pants, with tennis shoes in the hot sun while everyone around me was playing half naked.
I had flashbacks of counting cups, dropping lids, running a cash register, and sneaking in art projects for the slow times.
Flash backs of finding creative ways to show the world I was still a girl under that baggy t-shirt, and baseball cap. (Lots of bright colored eyeshadow and jewelry did the trick.. we weren't even allowed to tuck in our shirts!)
And of course that awful flashback of everyone getting out of the pool for a "Code Brown" which usually meant more people coming to the concessions.

Fillers

This is a filler post..

Mostly shots from last week..

because I'm constantly taking pictures,

and not all of the pictures are worthy for their own post.

So this is a filler post.. full of random moments from my week.

I started it off by taking the dogs on their walks.

That's one of my new years resolutions..

It's hard to keep that one when it's so cold.

It took Wicket a little while before he decided he wanted to walk.

But he was pretty good after crossing the street.

I received a beautiful package from my dear friend Erica.

Check out her stuff here.

Though, her shop is on vacation... you can still see the stuff on facebook.

Getting this adorable package cheered me up quite a bit.

And so did this.

Wicket hopped into my purse that was sitting on the couch.

The purse was full of all sorts of things, sketchbooks, planners, pens,

and now a puppy.

And yesterday I got back into watercolors, pastels, and colored pencils.

It's been over a year since I did art like this.

And now I will explain why some of these "cheered me".

I've been having terrible anxiety for the last few weeks.

Anxiety turns into depression, and depression turns into anxiety.

It's been a mean little cycle all my life, and I'm normally good at fighting it off.

This time it's been very hard.

Spoke To Soon

I spoke much too soon about my hopes for Spring.

We woke up with snow this morning!

So, I took the doggies out..

it's about time to introduce Wicket to some snow.

I wasn't sure how he would react, since his favorite thing is snuggling up to the heater.

The boys had a lot of fun, and Wicket is now snuggling up next to me

while I get ready to knit some hats.

Speaking of knitting, do you like my scarf?

I'll be adding one just like it to the shop.

It will be a two of a kind scarf!

One for me, and one for the shop.

Fun.

Well Utah, I'm sorry for cursing us.

Spring Is Coming!

I've been extremely busy getting paintings ready for the Show this spring.

I've been mainly focusing on tree paintings for the show.

And it's been really fun.

I'm excited for the show, but nervous to ship 20 paintings across the country.

If only I could drive out there, but my car is still sitting out on the street.

Still broken.

But these paintings all kind of have to do with spring.

I think spring is coming.. or at least I hope it is.

We didn't get much of a winter, and you won't hear me complaining.

The middle painting of the aspens in the night came to me in a dream!

I woke up in the morning, and quickly wrote down the idea.

The other two are like most paintings.. they just happen.

But, that's kind of how I like it.

The originals will be in the shop, but only until February 20.

Then they will be taken down, boxed up and shipped to Georgia.

I will still have prints and necklaces of these though.

Which reminds me, I have A LOT of photographing to do today.

I've got about 25 necklaces to show you!

I Want To Believe

Well, I already do actually. In fact I believe in just about everything until it is disproved. It makes like a little more fun.
You guys know me.. I love to explore. I love going to places that are a bit dangerous. Well, on the way home from California a little while a go, Brad and I took quite the detour. Instead of driving the usual way home, we went through a little town called Rachel. Along the little road called Highway 93, also known as The Extraterrestrial Highway. It is said it is the closest road to Area 51. We went late at night, and stayed in a little hotel along the outskirts and drove through it again on the way home. It was very eerie, and very fun.

Highlights Of The Journey:

Seeing strange flashing lights in the sky.

Seeing strange white lights follow along side the car.

Pulling over, turning the car off and looking at all the millions of stars.

Seeing several official vehicles with spotlights looking over across the desert

making sure no one was out there. (Spooky!)

Stopping at The Little A'Le'Inn for an energy drink, small town folk and a fun little gift shop.

Buying myself a hand typed, self pubblished "Guide to Area 51" by a so called Ex-Agent.

(Probably not something I should be bragging about online.)

Seeing random mile markers vibrating from no apparent reason.

Then stopping as I got close to take video.

And A Happy New Year!

So, I've never thrown a New Years Party before, or any kind of party for that matter.. But I decided to throw the kind of party that I would want to go to. I wanted lots of sparkles, and pretty things. All the girls had to dress up, and so did the boys. I was very impressed with this group of friends. Especially since I've only known them for a year, and I met them through Brad. They all complied to my formal rule.

I had plans to take pictures of everyone like this, but I got sidetracked.. For that I apologize, but I bet you guys could do with a few less kissing pictures.
We decorated the house with blue, black, silver and white. Twinkly lights, streamers and balloons.
We had a party hat making table, and streamers hanging from the ceiling.
We served black eyed pea bean dip and jalapeno poppers. I put out a bowl of olives, pretzels, and a big platter of cupcakes. I also used colored sixlets (My favorite candy!) as edible decorations.

And then I stopped photographing the surroundings, and started photographing the party. I figured out that if you have your camera at just the right setting, turn the flash on, and move it just a little as the shutter closes, you can get some really awesome "party" photos. And now I will warn you.. there is a swear word contained in these photos. Don't be mad, they had a little fun with the stickers.

And at midnight we kissed our sparkly, well dressed significant others.
Then went outside and lit fireworks, danced around with pots and pans and made a lot of noise.

Resolutions

Hello, and Happy New Year!

So, I haven't quite edited all the photos from the party. I ended up taking over 300! And then I only wanted to edit about 94.. and I don't want to post 94 on my blog and slow your computers down to a snail speed... so I'm not sure what I will do!

But, I won't post them until tomorrow.. because it's a great day to paint.

Here are a few sneak peeks though!

The house was sparkly, and so were the people who came over.

Brad was very handsome in his skinny black jeans, and his skinny black tie.

And I felt like a little fairy with sparkles on my eyes.

We ate lots of food, and laughed an awful lot.

I forgot to take pictures of most of the food and decorations,

But when you think about it, that means the party was too fun.

So, I will continue to edit photos today, and post them tomorrow.

But right now, I wanted to share some of MY Resolutions.

1. Pay off one credit card.

2. Take the doggies on more walks.

3. Keep a daily planner.

4. Disconnect from negative people who suck the positive energy right out of others.

5. Disconnect from flaky-part-time-only-there-when-they-need-you-friends.

Number 5 is a a big one for me.. I love to be nice to everyone. I go out of my way for people to make them happy, and I never expect anything in return. But then when I do need someone, and I go to them for support and comfort, they are never there for me. Which in turn makes me feel even worse. Or they say they will do something, then back out at the last minute. So yes, number 5 is a personal one, and it will be probably the hardest one. But everyone deserves better friends than that. And of course, the other part to number 5 is seeking out the opposite, and making more trustworthy true friends.

Today has been full of last minute party preparations.
It's almost all set up, and we've got everything we need. (I hope!)
We grabbed some sparklers, sparkly shoes, and much more!

I can't wait to show you more pictures from tonight!

Hopeful and Heartfelt

I hope this post won't seem more negative than I intended.

It is actually a lot more heartfelt than negative. Promise.

It's been quite the year.

Full of ups and downs, losses and gains.

My goodness,

I hope this next year will be a little calmer.

Just in this last year I have:

Moved cross country.

Got a divorce.

Met my current boyfriend Brad.

Found out I'm allergic to gluten,

dropped about 12 pounds.. and lost a lot of favorite foods.

Lost my best pal Mowgli,

Gained two new furry pals Wicket and Charlie.

Got a car,

then lost the car (It's still broken)

Moved into my own tiny tiny apartment,

which flooded just a few weeks ago,

resulting in many lost paintings.

And those are just the big things..

The little things add up too!

This year has seriously taught me the meaning of balance.

That all things come and go.

Even the ones we love the very most.

Nothing is ever for certain....

And one time you are up,

and the next moment you are down.

Like a giant see-saw.

And no one stays up for too long...

but we never stay down for too long either.

And I'm going to be completely honest with you right now... because this is my blog, and I'm allowed to do that.... I think this year has tried to kill me. I feel like I've been down for long enough. I feel like it's my turn to be on top. But I haven't felt that little rush of the see-saw going up in a very long time. Maybe this see-saw isn't the kind that goes up fast, and maybe it's a gradual climb.. but I just wish I could start to feel something. Because from what it seems.. the moment I start to get happy, something else terrible comes along. It's gotten to the point where I'm afraid to be happy!

How's that for negativity?

That's probably the most negative thing I've ever said on this blog. But the things is, I'm serious.

I know I've had a lot of gains in all those losses. I don't fail to recognize the good in life, there always is some light behind the clouds... but to be honest, I'm tired of looking for that. I'm tired of being the one to stay positive and smile anyways. I'm sick of smiling and being happy when the world is crumbling. I'm sick of being positive through the negative... I'm just wanting to be positive through the positive for a while. But I guess we never get to make that choice.

And maybe next year won't be so rough.

Maybe next year I won't have to be so tough.

But, like I've said before,

we don't get years, or weeks..

We only get moments.

Life is hard guys.

And it's hard for everyone. Not just me..

Who knows why we go through what we go through.

Maybe it's to learn, maybe it's an opportunity to teach.

Maybe it's to appreciate the little glimpses and moments of happiness more.

And now I say this, with tears in my eyes, and tissues on my lap,

because this was a hard post to write..

I hope this for everyone..

I hope next year is better.

I hope next year has more ups than downs.

I hope for more gains than losses...

And if we can't have that..

then I hope for more apparent reasons for the losses.

And now I say this, with an actual groan in my throat..

Uggghhh, you know what?

Even if next year plays out just like this year..

Even if next year is just as rough.

I promise to still be happy through it.

I promise to still find the light behind the clouds.

And I hope you will too.

And now I must end this post, because I ran out of tissues.

But don't be worried about me. I really just needed to vent.

I'm feeling better, and hopeful.

And a little bad for being so negative.

But I won't go back and delete,

because honesty is the best policy.

Happy New Years Eve Eve..

Thursday Threads- I Will Wish For An Early Spring

I'm not the type who only wears an outfit once.

But there are certain things in my closet that I've only worn a couple of times.

I put great meaning on clothes.

I don't know why.

I remember exactly what I wore when I met brad.

And this is exactly what I wore the day I found out Mowgli was so sick.

It was one of the worst days of my life.

Brad took me out to lunch and I felt so numb.

We accidentally dropped a dirty fork on this dress and it left a big stain.

I cried.

Brad felt bad.

But I wasn't crying for the dress.. it was just a really bad day.

(I can't even look at the pretty pink dress I wore when Mowgli passed away.

Too many tears were shed while wearing that one.)

So, I decided to turn this dress around.

It didn't have to be associated with such pain.

So, I got the stain out, and put the dress back on.
