I Got This

Alright... I've been keeping a little something from you guys.

Mostly because I don't want to get anyone's hopes ups.. 

And by anyone..
I mean me.

So, here is the situation. 

I have applied to teach art at a nearby school!

I would be the art teacher guys.. at a school.

With real students.

Basically, a dream job for me.

I applied last week, and had an interview.

Today I had the second interview,

and a tour of the school,

 I met the principal, 

and some students.

I can barely focus on anything else! 

I'm posting about it only to get this all off my chest, 

and maybe spark some positive thoughts my way.

I don't know when I will hear back..

so, until then,

please send some positive thoughts and vibes my way! 

I will be repeating "I got this. I got this. I got this." 

until I know.. that I got this.

And now I will try to get my mind on other things..

Like summer drives, and hikes and smiles.

Please give us a brief bio, where you are from, who you are, and how you started in this field?

I am a painter and art educator living in the Greater St. Louis Area. I am originally from St. Louis, but have spent a lot of time in Michigan, too, where I went to graduate school and taught at Interlochen Center for the Arts for 10 summers! I have a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art: Painting.

When did you first discover your creative talents?

I've loved making art for as long as I can remember, always taking as many art classes as I could, even during the summer!
It was in college, during my Painting I class I decided to take the leap and major in art, specifically painting.

 

What inspires you to keep going and how do you keep yourself motivated?

I am inspired by nature, maps, art and travel, landscapes and geology! Keeping a blog keeps me motivated, accountable, and inspired.
Each Wednesday, I post a new painting I've completed that week.
I also keep myself motivated by planting small seeds...applying to galleries and residencies and shows.
It also helps being surrounded by creative people!

 

How would you describe your style?I would describe my style as mixed-media abstract, with lots of layers and textures and a variety of media.
My paintings are layered with maps and scientific illustrations and geological diagrams of land formations.
I am captivated by the idea that geological shifts and transformations seem to parallel both individuals and their relationships: continually changing, varying, shifting and developing, too.

Describe yourself in 5 words.

Passionate, optimistic, creative, compassionate, introspective.

I love this quote by Albert Einstein:
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

Words of advice:
Never give up! Be true to yourself and be kind to yourself, too.
Remember everything's not black or white; there are lots of shades of gray in between.
Finally, practice, practice, practice and plant small seeds

Recently, I was asked if I was a geologist or a painter. I was very flattered, but amused, too, because science was never my strong suit in school.

Bravery

I actually don't like posting photos of myself like this, 

but my friend Chelsea did such a great job on these,

 she deserves quite a shout out.

We drove down to Salt Lake together last week, and had fun exploring and taking photos.
It's a good thing I was feeling brave, because there were lots of people around watching us.
One guy even got into a picture with me.

If you would have read this blog 2 years ago, you would know..
I would never have done anything like this.
I used to be extremely shy and introverted.

I still like my alone time, and have a few bouts of social anxiety..
but for the most part, I'm pretty brave in public.
Life is short. Why not have fun?

 For a less costly way to advertise,  you may send me an item from your shop to incorporate into my weekly outfit posts! I always link what I wear, and do a little review for my etsy or other handmade finds!
