Leap Day Sale!

I decided to "leap" on the bandwagon, and have a Leap Day sale!
This counts for originals too!
This offer ends tonight at midnight..
AND currently all art proceeds are going into my super secret and exciting project.. not to my pocket.

Trees Please

I can never stay away from painting trees for too long you know.
I've been craving spring and summer lately.
I miss green and pink.
I miss blossoms and warm grass.
I think these paintings really show my longing for some warmth.

The Original of this one is gone, but prints will be available.

Someone asked me if I painted willow trees, and I was surprised when I said no.
I love willow trees.
Here is a fun story for you... When I was about ten, my parents decided to plant a young willow tree in our garden. I said, "I can't wait to climb it!" My dad said, "It won't be big enough for anyone to climb it until you are in your 20's, and by then, you won't want to climb trees."
False statement father.
This painting is 11x14, and 8x10 prints will be available.
It was done with gesso, paper, antique pages, stucco, tissue paper, acrylic paints and oil pastels.

And now.. I have to tell you..
I'm very excited about something.
I can't say what, just yet.. and I might not be able to for a long time.
But, I can hardly contain myself.

I'm planning a project, and it will be huge.
And good.
And I may need lots of help and support from you guys.
But, I can't say anything just yet..
except to Brad, and I think he's had just about enough of me.

Brighter Days

Today feels like it should be the weekend.
I feel like I should lock myself into my studio and paint.
It's very stormy and cold outside.
Very very dreary.
My favorite, minus the snow.
But even then, it's nice to look at.

This weather is the most inspiring to me.
I could make myself a nice warm drink,
turn on my favorite music,
and paint.

Lately I've been focusing on my Quote Paintings.

I love the whole process.
Layering the canvas with all sorts of things, then picking the quote that I feel would be perfect for it.
The quote that means something to me.

I'm going to try to explain why I choose the quote I did a little bit more often..
So people can understand what it means to me.

I first came across this quote while I was living across the country, and very alone.
I was in a pretty bad relationship, and doing what I could to get the money to travel home.
One thing I would do to stay positive, was to remind myself, that I was indeed on my way to brighter days. "On My Way To Brighter Days" became almost like a mantra to me.. a reminder to keep going.
This painting includes real vintage lace, antique book pages, tissue paper,
crackle paint, stucco, paint, love, and so much more.
It's on an 8x10x.5 stretched canvas, and the sides are painted to match the painting,
making it ready to hang.
Of course, prints will be sold in the shop as well.

This is the song I always sang to Mowgli. He really was my Sunshine.
The one who got me through so much.
It's been nearly a year since he passed away,
and tears still sting my eyes at the thought of him.

I created this painting, with these words, because I'm not the only person who has a Sunshine in their lives. Everyone deserves a little reminder, that they are your Sunshine..
or perhaps you need a reminder that you are someones.
This one was done with tissue paper, crackle paint, antique paper, old book pages, and so much love.
Though the original has a very very special meaning to me,
I am still putting it up for sale, along with prints.
It's on an 8x10x.5 stretched canvas, and the sides are painted to match the painting,
making it ready to hang.

"Even in the darkness, the smallest star will shine."
This quote has been on my desktop for nearly two years.
It's one of my favorites. To me, it means that this world can be a nasty place.
Our lives can be full of hardship and worries.. but inside each of us,
is the light of a billion stars, and it's up to us to shine.
Our light can inspire others, and light up the whole world.
Even just a smile on a bad day.
This one was created with vintage books, antique paper, tissue paper, gesso, crackle paint, and like the others.. lots of love.
It's on an 8x10x.5 stretched canvas, and the sides are painted to match the painting,
so it's ready to hang.
I'm putting the original and prints up for sale in the shop.

I'm hoping to have these three paintings listed by tonight..
Something about sharing my favorite quotes, a
nd giving the story, or explanation of why they are my favorite...
just made me so happy.
It gave me quite the warm feeling in my heart.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have even more to show you.

The Hair Post

I've gotten many emails about my hair. How I get it to be so pink, who cuts it, who dyes it. What dye I use, what the back looks like, etc. So, here is a quick little post about my hair!

First off, I cut my own hair!
I've cut my own hair since I was 18. I'm pretty good at it.
I cut it about once a month with a regular pair of scissors, then trim it up with a pair of razor scissors.
I started cutting it myself because I didn't have the money to actually go anywhere, and I ended up liking it so much I just cut it myself.
If YOU are a hair dresser, don't make fun of me, cause it probably won't meet your standards of a good hair cut. (Insert winky face)

I also dye my hair myself!
My hair is all over pink, but the front is hot pink, while the rest is a darker pink. The whole dye process takes a while, but it's worth it to me. I love my pink hair, and I'm very lucky I don't have a job that would keep me from doing this.
First I bleach what I want hot pink, in this case the under layer of my bangs. Then I dye everywhere else red. Then after rinsing and drying all that I put in Manic Panic, Hot Hot Pink.  Then I rinse that out, and I've got pink hair!
Beware. This stuff stains your shower, and sink, and floors. Be very careful. It also stains your hands and nails...
I have to repeat this whole process about once a month.

And here is a quick little 360 of the hair.. which is new to me.. I don't think I've ever seen the back of my head since I started cutting it myself!

Remember, if you are going to dye you hair fun colors.. make sure you get it cleared with your work!
And invest in some good shower cleaner, and a towel that matches your hair color.

Pass It Forward

I'm so excited about this fun project from The Shine Project.
I think it's a great and beautiful way to spread kindness and miracles.

Pass It Forward was designed to get people to do little things, everyday, that makes an impact on the community around them. Pass it Forward is designed around a card.
Each card is given a unique ID number.

So, say I'm at the drive thru of a restaurant, and I decide to pay for the person behind me. I would give the cashier the card and tell them to pass it to the next car when they give them their food, that's already been paid for. Then, I go home and log into the website on the card and find the cards ID number. I log into it, and add my information... My first name, city, and a description of what I did.

Let's say the person behind me was you, you would pass it forward to someone else,
and then would go home and do the same thing.

From the very beginning, you will be able to track where your card goes, and how many people you affect just by doing one simple act of kindness.
This project had the potential of working small miracles in the lives of those we pass, and we will then be able to see how far one simple act can go.

Cards will be given with every purchase from the Shine Shop, or you can purchase a pack of 10 for very cheap from the shop as well.
Portions of all proceeds go to the shine scholarship project,
so you can feel good about your purchase.

Thursday Threads- Making Good Luck

Every time I wear this shirt I seem to have bad luck, like really bad, where I get hurt.
I've only worn it twice.
The first time, I was at a restaurant, accidentally bumped my elbow, which caused me to black out, which resulted in a pretty bad concussion.
The second time I wore this shirt, I bumped my knee really hard on my easel, and started to black out again.. I managed to lay myself down where Brad found me, and thought I was dead.
I don't know why I go unconscious when I hit my elbow or knee... I assume it's the shirt..
But, I was brave, and put it back on..

I'm proud to say I made it through the day with no accidents.
And now I will turn it into a lucky shirt.

The shirt is actually from the thrift store. It's a boy shirt, but I cut it, and made it ruffle a bit. I also added the crocheted tank sleeves.

Shirt- Thrift Store, upcycled.
Pants- Bullhead
Cardigan- Thrifted
Bracelet- OnceAgainSam
Boots- Forever Young
Necklace- Talk2thetrees

Love That Grows

I got Wicket a few months after my Mowgli passed away,
and it wasn't until just a few months ago that I realized how much I really love my Wickey.
Like, I am in love with this little puppy. Smitten really.

And then I remembered, that the same sort of thing happened with Mowgli.
I think that when a puppy is younger, you love them like a baby, and as they grow you start to love them for the sweet spirit and friend that they are.
You stop seeing them as a dog, or an animal, and you see their soul.

That might sound silly, but I think it's true.

And now that Charlie is with his new family, Wicket has been extremely lovey and playful with us.
He doesn't have Charlie to pal around with anymore, but he has his human family to play with. I think he is discovering how much he likes that.

Wicket will be a whole year old this April.
I will make him a doggie cake, and give him all sorts of toys and goodies.
I will spoil him and give him loves and kisses.
Because that's what you do when you love someone.

The Power Of Words

I'm a quote person.
I love little quotes, and words of inspiration.
For quite a while now, I've been collecting my favorite quotes,
and putting them into a big folder on my computer.
Whenever I need a bit of inspiration,
I just read through my ever growing quote folder.

Yesterday, I took a bit of time to print my very favorite quotes
so I could have a quote jar for my studio.

For a long time I've wanted to put my favorite quotes into paintings,
and now that I'm finished up getting paintings ready for the show in Georgia..
I finally can.

For the show in Georgia, I needed to get about 20 big paintings done.
I love working with the big canvases,
but I'm very happy to be working with smaller sizes again.
It makes the Originals more affordable,
plus the painting is a lot easier to handle and ship.

I spent some serious time in the studio this long weekend painting my favorite words onto canvas.

I painted the words that inspired me,
words that helped me through the toughest times in my life.
Words that gave me hope and comfort.
And so I'm starting a new line of paintings.
"The Power Of Words."

And I hope it will be a success, not in terms of sales..
but in terms of help, inspiration, and love.
By the end of the day, all four of these will be in the shop.
I will be posting the originals and prints,
so if you see one that you like, and want the original,
email me about prices and reserving it.

These are some of my favorite paintings,
and I'm so excited to do more.
I even had dreams about it.

A Quick Peek!

A quick photo of a new painting from my new series!

My Weekend In Pictures

Dyed my hair more pink, since it was fading pretty fast.
Spent time in the studio painting.
Walked into the living room to see poor Wicket stuck in the couch.. where he fell asleep.
Drank the most delicious iced coffee. It tastes a bit like roasted marshmallows.
More photos of new work.
Playing with my silly puppy boy.
